This past Sunday, August, 26th, I attended the second day of the Afro Punk Festival at Commodore Battery Park in Brooklyn. I love music and I love artsy festivals, so I am glad I went this year. A couple of phrases to describe the experience; dope music, beautiful, artsy, afro punk-esque (is that a word?) people, unique fashions, nice market place, and much MUCH more. Blessings to all the creative artists and the indie musical artists that did their thing. There were bands all day long. I really enjoy listening to underground and indie music. There is just something about it’s rawness that I love. I had the opportunity to check out Bad Rabbits, Reggie Watts, Body Language, Straight Line Stitch, the DJ’s Stack Aly and E.Z. Mo Breezy, and the headliner Janelle Monae. Ms. Badu was there on Saturday so I missed her. Fortunately for me, I have seen her before.
Check out the short video I put together containing some of the music, vendors, fashion, people and eats. For more information about the festival, go to www.afropunkfest.com. May sure you check out Afro Punk Festival next year, but until then keep supporting these artists of all art forms, and respect the Afro Punk culture! Peace, Love and Dance -elle
