"Dance is from the people and should always be given back to the people. It's not an elitist form, it's a spiritual space." -Author Unknown

Free spirits are creative beings destined to shine. Enter Lynette “Elle” Mayo, whose arrival into the entertainment arena began at a very early age. Elle participated in local fashion shows and stage productions, and during her collegiate years, she was awarded with being named All CIAA Cheerleader as a Virginia State University “Woo-Woo”. She was also instrumental in bringing back the championship title as the step mistress for her sorority’s step team. This experience sparked her interest in choreographing and creating shows.

Elle is the owner of Dance Roots Etc., LLC, a boutique dance and design production company. She works with clients on choreography, artist development, movement coaching, creative directing and dance instruction. Prior to establishing her own company, Mayo began her professional career working at the Apollo Theater and Hype Hair Magazine. It was while working on a photo shoot that she observed the importance of “creating and marketing” an image. She realized her creative sense could be greatly used in the recording industry. Following a brief stint in Artist & Repertoire (A&R) at Verve Records, Lynette landed a gig with Columbia Records/Sony Music as an A&R Rep. She played an intricate role in projects for Nas, 50 Cent, Wyclef, Three 6 Mafia and numerous album, soundtrack and single releases.

Elle’s credits include Law & Order, AOL commercial, Malibu Rum Promo, Sony Music Benefit Concert and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Regional and National Step Shows. She has choreographed dance productions for Herrick’s Dance Repertory, indie artists Kena Sage, Teddi, G Fy G, Lalo, The Hipster Comedy Show at Upright Brigade Theater and taught stepping, hip hop and Afrobeat classes and workshops for the clients including The Virginia State University Woo Woos Cheerleading Squad (VA), NJPAC Arts in Education (NJ), Branch Brook Park Alliance (NJ), Landmark High School (NYC), P.S. 133 (NYC), Dancer’s Edge Studio (NJ) and Someone’s Daughter, Inc. (NJ). Elle’s choreography entitled “Caribbean Blues” was added to the Dance Vidz app on iTunes as a featured video for Afro Caribbean dance moves.

In 2012, Elle created Elle Mayo Designs by Dance Roots Etc., a hand-crafted beaded jewelry line specializing in products made with beads ranging from glass seed and crystal to semi-precious and wooden. She aims to create stylish, unique pieces with an urban, eclectic edge. Check out ellemayodesigns.com
